The festival will take place in a stunning coastal location on 2-9 September
London promoters LWE – the people behind Junction 2 festival as well as countless other large-scale events in the capital – are to stage a brand new festival called ION in Albania next year.
ION will take place in the beautiful coastal resort of Dhërmi on 2-9 September, and with a capacity of just 3,000 looks set to be quite an intimate affair. But sadly that's about as much as we can tell you for now! As the early publicity materials emphasise the Junction 2 connection (as opposed to other LWE events) it's probably fair to assume that ION will lean towards the techno side of things, but no details regarding the line-up or ticket prices have yet been announced.
It's worth noting in the meantime, though, that ION is just the latest of several new electronic music festivals to be launched in Albania. Since Kala blazed a trail in 2018, we've seen the birth of Anjunadeep's Explorations, which launched back in June (based, like ION, in Dhërmi) and the announcement of Unum in Shengjin (which will make its debut on 28 May) – suggesting that Albania could soon rival Croatia for the title of Europe's most essential festival destination.
