2 Bit Thugs

Alex M serves up two party-hearty originals, Dissolut and Space Jump Salute take care of remix duties

Italian producer Alex M has a solid reputation in tech-house circles, and releases like this one are the reason why.

To kick off we have the original mix of the title track, which begins with a punchy kick, hi-hat and other rhythmic sounds, which are quickly joined by a rolling funky bassline and then the vocal, which really gives it a lift. Then he adds synths, claps and more vocals, saying “work this pussy," which are repeated over and over. As the track plays on there are plenty of other vocal chops and mad sounds which make it one not to miss. Next up is Dissolut's remix, which comes in with a clickety-click drum pattern on the hi-hat and added claps. Then they add a kick and, after a vocal snippet or two and a snare roll, the track really starts to gel together, and is a fine one with quite a dubby feel.

Next up is The Underground, a punchy number that starts with a kickdrum, two hi-hat patterns playing simultaneously and a bass synth riff, the latter being one of the track's main hooks. A twisted pad sound gives it a slightly unsettling feel and there are cowbells thrown into the mix as well, which along with a male vocal repeating “the underground” in cut-up, stuttered fashion makes for a compelling dance tune. The final track is the Space Jump Salute Remix, a funky uptempo cut with an old school, jacked-up vibe. The percussion here really cuts through the sounds to almost take centre stage, making for a spirited tune.

So there you have it: two great tracks, both with strong remixes. Go and have a listen for yourself – I don't think you'll be disappointed.
