My Favourite Freaks come up with the dancefloor goods once again
This promo landed in my inbox with a release date and the following as a description: "Two tech-house bangers 4 the floor! Don’t miss it!". So it's up to the music to explain itself, which it thankfully does very well.
First up is My Beat, which starts with a thudding percussion loop and a sci-fi sound in the background. Then a minimal female vocal kicks in, followed by the bassline. As the track progresses it has a real low-down, dirty feel, with female hip-house vocals backed by a choppy funky groove, a deep horn sample as the lead and some more out-there sounds thrown in for good measure. It's a proper floorfiller with elongated risers and accompanying snare rolls, and a groover from start to finish.
Next comes Smash It, which is appropriately titled as smash it it does! This track has another mammoth backbeat with a funky bassline that again is a call to the dancefloor, and is accented with male and female hip-house vocals, scratch samples, fast claps and Linndrum hits that give it an electro edge, which works like a charm. There's an odd breakdown with loads of vocal samples and sci-fi sounds, then on it goes, whipping up a storm like its companion.
Both are main set tracks, and as you've probably guessed, I love them both! I can see myself playing them to death over the coming months and if you want to really wow a dancefloor, I suggest you try doing the same.
