2 Bit Thugs

Bee Lincoln provides three original cuts, with remixes from Gabriel Ferreira and Samuel Fach

What we have here is that always most exciting of artefacts, the very first release from a brand new label. Berlin's as usual.music is the label in question, and the man at the controls for AUM001 (and I believe the label itself, though that's not explicitly stated) is Bee Lincoln.

Six tracks make up the EP, with two mixes of Dip It, three of Is This and one of Slotta. In its original form, Dip It is a mid-paced tech-houser with tuff, slammin' 4/4s, some nice acid squelch and a woman's voice repeating the title at intervals, while the accompanying Gabriel Ferreira Remix opts for lighter, more intricate percussion and puts the vocal through the FX mangle.

Next up is Is This, which comes with two versions by Lincoln himself: the Bang Version is a slice of lightly glitched-up dub techno, while the Hypnobass Version is less glitchy and more spaced-out and dubby. Samuel Fach's remix then takes us into more out-and-out techno territory, while the slightly smoother, housier Slotta completes the EP.

The original mix of Dip It and the Hypnobass Version of Is This stand out for me but it's all good, as they say, making this an excellent opening salvo from this young label. More please!
