Praia Da Rocha in Portimão will be BPM's first European home
The first details have emerged of the first BPM festival to be held outside of Mexico. The coastal resort of Praia Da Rocha in Portimão, Portugal is where it's all going down, with the inaugural BPM Portugal set to take place on 14-17 September this year.
It's been something of a rollercoaster of a year for BPM. In the midst of their 10th anniversary celebrations in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico back in January, the organisers announced that they would soon be expanding, with new editions of BPM scheduled to take place in Brazil in April and Portugal in September. Then came the tragic shooting at the closing party, which saw five people killed and several others wounded. The Mexican authorities' response was to announce a blanket ban on electronic music events in the region, putting even more pressure on BPM to make the new events work.
The Brazil edition was cancelled in February for reasons unspecified, but happily it now looks certain that Portugal will be going ahead as planned - so props to the BPM organisers for battling on through in the face of adversity. There's no word yet as to line-ups, but with BPM regularly featuring stages from the likes of elrow, Diynamic, Innervisions and Music On, the press release's promise of "a discerning selection of DJs from the house and techno sprectrum" can probably be taken in good faith!
Early bird tickets are available now, priced just €125 (£107 approx) for a four-day wristband - to get yours, click here. BPM has also partnered with Choice Holidays to offer a variety of flight/accommodation packages, details of which can be found here.
