CamelPhat team up with the Snatch! records boss and acclaimed vocalist Rucker, with devastating results

Unstoppable UK house duo CamelPhat team up with Snatch! Records boss Riva Starr and America’s esteemed spoken word recording artist Ursula Rucker to deliver the two-track collaborative EP Crystal Clear.

First up is the title track, which starts with a super-distorted kick and a simple, stabbing synth pattern . The kick is then swapped for a more rounded one as the track builds to a breakdown of sorts where, after a whooshing sound, the spoken female vocal from Rucker is added, lifting the track nicely. A mechanical hi-hat keeps the beat as the vocal comes and goes and the synths stab in and out, giving it an edgy feel which will work well out on the floor. It's quite a minimal affair but the excellent vocal really carries it.

Electricity, the second track, uses another great kickdrum, along with a subtle cowbell and shaker sounds, as a backbeat for subtle synth sounds and a whispered male vocal from Mikey V Unlike the first track this is all about subtle nuances of sound: it's a multi-layered creation that sounds marvellous through a good soundsystem. There are healthy amounts of acid employed as well, and the end result is a track that begs to be heard at high volumes.

For me Electricity is the standout here: sonically, it's a work of art! Which will prove the most popular is a different question, but what I can tell you is that this release is well worth checking out.
