2 Bit Thugs

Russian label Stazis bring us an EP that proves it's not what you call it, it's what it sounds like that matters

Here we have one of those tech-house releases that techno and house lovers alike will want to claim as their own.

Just the two tracks on offer, but the old adage of "if it ain't broke" has clearly been applied because both tracks are certified bombs. Jump Up is up first, an uncompromising dark groover powered along by slamming 4/4s and throbbing bass and topped with breathy vocal micro-snips that loop incessantly and a moody synthline that has something of a thriller movie, something's-about-to-happen kinda feel, while a treated voice intones the title periodically. It's great - but Eywa on the flip is even better, having a similar dark n' moody vibe to the A but ramping up the funk factor in the bassline department several notches.

Serve loud in dark rooms for maximum effect.
