North Carolina producer djseanEboy comes to Miami techno label Descend
US producer djseanEboy has featured previously on labels such as Funk'n Deep, Renesanz and Frequenza, and now he makes his debut for Miami's Descend Records.
Substance itself starts with an ominous synth riff, then adds a tuned kick and shuffling hi-hat before we reach the main body of the track, with an even meatier kick, a looped vocal sample and much grunginess all coming in at once. The ominous synth riff plays on and the track is a real meat-grinder of a tune, with menacing growling noises that will make the right crowd dance with wild abandon. The accompanying Feisty is a lot less intense and features a long intro with vocal samples, a pumping kick and an intricate snare pattern. It's a builder, slowly adding sounds like crashing cymbals and a synth lead that grows in volume as the track progresses. There's a breakdown with the synth riff as the main hook, and then on it plays, with the return of the vocal samples and odd little snare fills, to the percussive outro.
My favourite track is Feisty - it's more subtle than the title track, which is a bit too raucous for me. But they're both well produced, so if you're a techno lover then check this EP out.
