If you fancy yourself as the next Basic Channel or James Blake, this is one to check out
New
from Gothic Instruments, via Time+Space, comes Dronar Hybrid Module,
a new Kontakt instrument/sound library built to create “deep, grainy,
cutting-edge, evolving cinematic and sci-fi atmospheres”.
The
first in a series of Dronar instruments, the Hybrid Module features
300 presets and 16GB of audio, including live string sounds created
by players from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Do note,
though, that you'll need the full version of Kontakt 5 to use it.
Simply
play a chord, and Hybrid Module will turn it into haunting
atmospherics worthy of your next dub techno or ambient glitch-hop production. In GI's own words, it "spreads out the chord in the
mid-range, adds a root bass note, a high note and then adds evolving
sound effects. Eight simultaneous different sounds are then animated
with LFOs and arpeggiators to bring them to life. The result is rich
and dramatic without the need to add additional instruments."
To
further tweak and manipulate the sounds you create, the software
offers six dials on the primary interface: Intensity, Movement, Hi,
Mid, Lo and FX. Further options then become available as you dig a
little deeper, which (again in GI's words), "turn DRONAR into a
vast modular multi-timbral synth/sampler with multiple independent
arpeggiators."
Dronar
Hybrid Module is available now at the introductory price of £49.95,
rising to £59.95 from 22 February, and those purchasing now are
promised a discount on future Dronar instruments. For full details,
see the Time+Space website.
