Helly Larson is the man at the controls, serving up four slices of deep, dubby goodness
Though they're better known for their deep/dub/minimal techno output, Klartraum's Lucidflow aren't afraid to take a walk on the deep house side of the fence from time to time. And when they do - as this four-tracker from Helly Larson shows - the results are every bit as good as when they stay in more familiar pastures.
Deep Water is up first, a dreamy, slo-mo affair that's long on delicate atmospherics and twitchy percussion, and underpinned by a heavy dub bassline. The Way Of The Deep is a slightly pacier cut with no-nonsense 4/4s and claps, as well as more of the FX-and-dub-bass combo of the opener. Track Of Light itself is the most uptempo and techy cut on offer, veering towards minimal territory, but the standout for this reviewer is Feel It In Your Soul, a late-night beauty of a track with muted 4/4s, chords that just don't stop and more dubwise bass action - not to mention barely-there Chi-town vocal snips ("jack to the house", etc) that offer a wry contrast to the track's langorous 118bpm tempo.
As we said at the start - a housier ride than normal but every bit as good as we've come to expect from this most consistent of labels.
