Wycombe-based Harry Young comes to the Fokuz Recordings sub-label with a devastating four-tracker
If you like your D&B on the deeper side, then this EP from High Wycombe's Harry Young, AKA Henry, is well worth investigating.
First up is Over Your Shoulder, a deceptively pacey little roller which sits somewhere between 'minimal' and 'liquid' on the D&B continuum, with a gloriously rich, resonant bassline and Acen-like chimpunk'd vocal cut-ups the key features. That's followed by Bittersweet itself, which is similar in style but with a moody, proggy feel to the bassline. Out Of Our Hands then finds us back in more straight-up liquid funk territory with its ethereal female vocal snips and minor piano chords, before Henry turns the dark back up a notch on closer Crystallize.
Taken as a whole, the EP's blend of dark, techy minimalism and lighter, fluffier liquid stylings makes for a concoction that's pretty irresistible.
