The Scottish duo of Illyus Brown and Ivan Hall Barrientos come to Mark Knight's label

Scottish house duo Illyus & Barrientos, the most recent signings to Toolroom’s roster, are set to do some "serious" dancefloor damage with this, their first release of 2018.

So Serious kicks off with a chunky percussion loop and what sounds like a subtle choppy guitar sound, then develops nicely - via the addition of a shaken tambourine, bass tones and a swung hi-hat pattern - into a chunky, funky house track with female vocals cut up and liberally scattered into the mix. As the main female vocal comes in, there's a massive riser and a solid lead line that drags you through the aural organised chaos nicely; there are also whoops and snare rolls that all add to the tension.

The whole track is designed to rock a nightclub or festival, and sounds great at loud volumes: by the time you hit the second breakdown, the crowd should be rocking with wild abandon! If you're looking for a proper no-holds-barred party tune, this infectious, fun release is a strong contender.
