Manchester veteran Jason Herd remixes a cut from his own back catalogue
With interest in good old-fashioned vocal house seemingly on the upswing right now, the time seems right for this reissue of a gospel-tinged belter starring the golden tonsils of Michelle Weeks. The original was released in 2013: now it's down to Jason Herd to remix it. As 'Juan Kidd' was actually an alias for the Manchester veteran in the first place, and Weirdo Recordings is his own label, he did have something of a head start...
There are three new mixes to choose from. Herd's Remix rocks a big, 90s-style piano line and finds Ms Weeks in fine testifyin' form on her half-sung, half-spoken vocal, and is available too in truncated form as the Radio Edit. If that's too much for you, though, then the Warehouse Dub might suit you better: this stripped-back rub features a different, hollowed-out sounding piano line and just enough of the vocal to make its point.
There's definitely a sense of nostalgia to this release. But with big vocals making a comeback right now, who knows how far it might go second time around?
