"Moments Like This"

An excellent nostalgic two-tracker from the ever-checkable Slime Recordings

If you're fiending for some old-skool garage action, look no further!

Moments Like This is the work of Lauren Neko, an Australian vocalist, songwriter and label owner who's worked with everyone from Roni Size to DJ Pierre. This release for Slime Recordings, though, doesn't sound remotely like either. Instead, Moments Like This looks to the late 90s/early 00s glory days of UK garage for inspiration.

This reviewer recently revisited Donna Dee's classic Spellbound long-player for the first time in a year or to, and was pleased to note that Dee's sultry, smooth-but-street-tough take on UKG has lost none of its charm over time. So consider it praise indeed when I say the Original Mix of Moments Like This could slide onto that album and sound perfectly at home. Over on the flip, meanwhile, the jerkier Bad Habit Mix takes us into more jittery two-step territory.

Quality stuff that'll delight the garage diehards, and hopefully win over a few new converts for good measure.
