The Spanish producer comes to Sonny Fodera's Solotoko label
Barcelona-based DJ/producer Miguel Bastida has been making a name for himself since the tender age of 14, and in his time has had releases on labels such as Sola, Deeperfect, Suara and his own Be One Records. This release is on Sonny Fodera's Solotoko label, and features two tech-house tracks.
First up is Dona itself, which comes out the gate swinging with a nifty kickdrum arrangement that's swiftly joined by a hi-hat. A funky bassline that takes us to a mini-break, where a hoover-esque synth note blasts and the minimal vocals kick in. The track is pretty sparse, with various percussion loops added to make itrhythmically interesting, and will really kick over a nice loud rig. The second track, Retroluzzione, starts with a shuffling snare over a muted kick, joined by the hi-hat, synth notes and a male vocal line. It has another funky bassline and although it's not as instant as Dona, it's still a groover that will get them going out on the floor. There are more vocals and a big-ass breakdown, and the overall quirkiness is very refreshing.
My favourite is Dona but both tracks are great and are well worth checking out during your next downloading binge.
