Hook it up to an external sound source and scratch over the top

Numark has announced the PT01 Scratch, a portable turntable that lets you scratch over digital files.

Powered by six AA batteries or via a supplied AC adaptor, the PT01 Scratch features a built-in speaker and comes complete with a cartridge and slipmat. It also features a 'scratch switch' - essentially a single-sided crossfader. Plug in an external sound source (your phone being the obvious choice) using the 3.5mm Aux input, play a background beat from your device then scribble, crab and flare away over the top using real vinyl on the PT01.

Alternatively, of course, you could just take the PT01 Scratch with you on crate-digging expeditions - it comes with its own carry case - or use it to rip your vinyl to MP3, WAV or FLAC using the USB output. The deck has 33, 45 and 78rpm settings, though sadly no pitch control.

The PT01 Scratch will be available from October, priced £110. For more info, see Numark.com
