The 'Whispers' EP is only the fourth release on Paul's own Stayout Records label
Today we have another exclusive track premiere for you, as iDJ brings you the first public airing of Paul Lightfoot's Clouds, which will be released on 14 February as part of the Whispers EP.
Based in the northwest of England, Lightfoot is a relative newcomer to production, and still only in his early 20s. That hasn't stopped him setting up two record labels, though: Stayout, which is the straight-up house label and from whom Whispers will be the fourth release, and Staytech, which - as the more Sherlock-like among you may have already sussed - is a sub-label focusing on techier sounds. He lists his influences as "Eats Everything, Maya Jane Coles, Joseph Capriati, Richie Hawtin, Nina Kraviz, Nick Curly, Patrick Topping, wAFF, Joris Voorn, Carl Cox, Seth Troxler, Flashmob, and many more."
To these old ears though, Clouds, with its big throbbing synth bassline and no-nonsense kicks, wouldn't have sounded out of place on the bassline house floors of Birmingham and Sheffield in the mid-00s, or pumping out of the speakers via Silk City FM... though you might've needed to pitch it up a bit! See what you think...
