The German techno don beat off stiff competition from Tale Of Us, DJ EZ, Maceo Plex and Nero, who were also nominated
The small hours of yesterday morning
saw Pete Tong announce the winner of this year's 'Radio 1 Essential
Mix of the Year' title, which is chosen by an unnamed panel of
'industry judges'. This year it was the turn of Berghain resident and
Klockworks label boss Ben Klock to receive the honour, in recognition
of the take-no-prisoners techno set he played for Tong's show on 10
October. So congratulations Mr Klock!
Klock is of course best known for
having been resident at Berghain since 2004, but his winning
Essential Mix was apparently recorded not in the legendary Berlin
club but "on the road somewhere". Meanwhile, coming in second place were Italy's
Tale Of Us, and Tong re-broadcast both mixes in full on his show on
New Year's Day. Check out the BBC
iPlayer page to hear them both.
Alternatively, if you don't have access
to iPlayer then Klock's mix has been also reposted on Soundcloud by
several people…
