New version features over 1,000 new patches as well as some nifty new features

Propellerhead has announced that Reason 9, the latest version of the company's popular digital audio workstation (DAW) package, will be available to buy from 21 June

Reason 9 features a number of new features, as well as over 1,000 new patches. Scales & Chords, Note Echo and Arpeggio are three new player devices that give you more options for how sounds you've selected are played back, while the new Pitch Edit function allows for more precise timestretching. There's a new Razor tool to slice beats in half, and MIDI and automation information can now be reversed at the touch of a single button. Reason 9 also now offers a number of different visual themes so you can customise the software's appearance.

Reason 9 costs €369, though existing users can upgrade for just €129, or for free if they've purchased a copy of Reason since 1 May. A lower-specced entry-level version, Reason 9 Essentials, is also available, priced just €69. The system requirements are as follows:

PC Dual-core Intel or AMD chip, Windows 7 (64-bit) or higher, 4GB RAM, 4GB hard disk space, audio interface with ASIO drive, monitor with at least 1280x768 resolution.
Mac Dual-core Intel chip, Mac OS X 10.7 or higher, 4GB RAM, 4GB hard disk space, Core Audio-compliant audio interface, monitor with at least 1280x768 resolution.
