What we're gonna do right here is look back...

Ultra Nate, Seb Fontaine, Rozalla, Allister Whitehead and more hit the north on 7 September

St Helens' very own retro dance festival Reminisce returns for its fifth year on 7 September, once more baosting a line-up packed with big names from the past (even if most of them are still around).

Taking place in six big-top arenas in the town's Sherdley Park, and with a capacity of 19,000, it has to be said that Reminisce may not be the coolest, hippest dance event on the planet – not with the likes of Venga Boys and Whigfield on the bill. But while Judge Jules, D:Ream and Ultrabeat may appeal to a more commercial crowd, Reminisce – with its strong focus on live PAs – also has plenty to offer lovers of rmore underground/credible house sounds. After all, where else are you gonna find Ultra Nate, Rozalla, Sandy B, Shades Of Rhythm, Kathy Brown, Julie McKnight, Angie Brown and Shawnee Taylor all singing live in one afternoon?

On the DJ front, trance and hard house lovers are well catered for with the likes of Judge Jules, Seb Fontaine, Dave Pearce, Matt Darey and Andy Whitby. But there's room on the line-up too for Stu Allan, Tall Paul, Allister Whitehead, John Kelly, Brandon Block and Jon Pleased Wimmin, meaning those classic rave and handbag tunes that evoke misty-eyed memories of the 90s glory days will be in plentiful supply. And for the diehard nostalgists, the Quadrant In The Park arena – a tribute to the legendary Liverpool rave venue of (nearly) the same name, in case younger readers weren't clear – is a strictly over-30s affair, presumably so you can get away with it without those meddling kids...

All told, over 150 artists and DJs are down to play what looks like being a fun, unpretentious day out in the late summer sunshine. The event runs from noon till 11pm, and tickets are still available, priced £85. For full details, see Reminisce's own website.
