Sadly, this version won't be available to buy - at least not for the foreseeable future

Launched in summer 2016, Richie Hawtin's PLAYdifferently Model 1 mixer has gone on to find favour with the likes of Carl Cox, Louie Vega, Nicole Moudaber, David Morales, Loco Dice, Dubfire, Matador and other A-listers. But now Hawtin has a very special Model 1 that's just for him.

The custom Model 1, which he unveiled in an Instagram post over the weekend, features 10 channels (as opposed to the standard Model 1's six) and some additional direct outputs round the back. It was built for Richie by his father, Mick Hawtin, who he says has "always been my secret weapon, over the years customising my studio mixers for the early Plastikman albums and, of course, modifying my Allen & Heath Xone:62 and creating the first true MIDI-enabled DJ mixer!"

Just don't go looking for the new Model 1 in shops any time soon - according to Hawtin the unit was "specially built to test next-generation CLOSE live show ideas for the summer 2018 touring season". For details of the Model 1 mixer that you can buy, see the PLAYdifferently website.
