Sanchez slams celebrity DJs

The S-Man vented his feelings on Twitter last night

We don't normally comment on 'Twitter rants' but Rog is bang on the money here!

Roger Sanchez took to Twitter last night to share some frank thoughts on 'celebrity DJs', which we thought were worth sharing with you today.

Normally, we tend to ignore all the toy-depramming that goes on on Twitter, largely because writing about Azealia Banks and Deadmau5 all day, every day isn't our idea of fun. But two points make this particular 'Twitter rant' different. Firstly, Roger's such a humble, self-effacing guy that when he launches a tirade like this, you know it's coming from the heart, not straight out of the How To Get Media Attention playbook. And secondly, we have no hestitation in telling you - we 100 per cent agree with everything he's saying here!

We particularly like a point he makes near the end just because someone's famous in another field, doesn't mean they're "not allowed" to have a go at DJing. Just as long as they're in it for the right reasons (love of music and respect for the craft) and not merely as another way to extend their 15 minutes of Warholian fame. So girls, you'll be glad to know this lets Idris Elba off the hook (he was a garage DJ before he was an actor).

Anyway, here's what Sanchez had to say. Testify, Rog!

There’s only so much bastardization of the term “Dj” I can take..we’ve been dealing w it 4 years from fake “producers” w chart bought trax..

— Roger Sanchez (@djrogersanchez) May 14, 2016

Who then go on 2 b fake “djs” w pre recorded sets..but AT LEAST they have SOME interest in a musical career, albeit just 2 make a name & $..

— Roger Sanchez (@djrogersanchez) May 14, 2016

But now it’s become a PR man’s wet dream 2 make quick $ by slapping “Dj Set” at a celebrity appearance at a club 2 have an excuse 2 charge

— Roger Sanchez (@djrogersanchez) May 14, 2016

More money- maaaannn if that’s the case just stick 2 “appearance” & make $ the old fashioned way- by dancing around in the VIP & drinking

— Roger Sanchez (@djrogersanchez) May 14, 2016

..Bottles with models! I rarely rant but I think “Debut Dj Set” by celebs has devalued the art in the public eye 2 the point of almost

— Roger Sanchez (@djrogersanchez) May 14, 2016

…being meaningless. I’m not bothered by the $ being paid- it could be $1 for all I care..I care about the ART of Dj’ing not only being lost

— Roger Sanchez (@djrogersanchez) May 14, 2016

..within the MUSIC community by ppl who don’t even Dj anymore- just play pre recorded sets & do heart hands and spray champagne & stand on

— Roger Sanchez (@djrogersanchez) May 14, 2016

..tables- THATS bad enuff, but I hold my piece. Live & let live..but NOW ANYBODY can slap the prefix Dj on their name & “play” a “set” in

— Roger Sanchez (@djrogersanchez) May 14, 2016

..Vegas (yes I’m talking about @kyliejenner) or Cannes or anyplace celebrity overrides musical talent & get booked to “DJ”! Nope nope nope

— Roger Sanchez (@djrogersanchez) May 14, 2016

…not going 2 stay shut. I’m good with ppl making cake- make it ur way all day I say.. But stop devaluing and art form. Now let me make this

— Roger Sanchez (@djrogersanchez) May 14, 2016

..clear- there ARE some celebrities who deserve respect as djs because they have INVESTED time & love into it..

— Roger Sanchez (@djrogersanchez) May 14, 2016

..music. If u put the time in to research ur music & hone the craft, I don’t care WHAT your day( or night)job is- u deserve respect &

— Roger Sanchez (@djrogersanchez) May 14, 2016

..A shot at playing for a crowd. But just as EDM has been parodying itself 2 the point of irrelevance, so 2 is the term “Dj” when the art

..form is no longer respected AT ALL BY ANYONE. For all PR ppl, managers, cronies, sycophants & “advisors” of celebrities in search of the

..next “trendy way to capitalize on the visibility of your brand” PLEASE pick something else..another activity to reduce to the point of

— Roger Sanchez (@djrogersanchez) May 14, 2016

..banality- leave “DJ’ing” alone! Seriously- we have enough poseurs within our OWN ranks to keep us complaining for YEARS…

— Roger Sanchez (@djrogersanchez) May 14, 2016

…we don’t NEED yours!! That’s all from me 4 tonight…2morrow I’m off 2 Miami 2 do some REAL DJing at Heart & play a non pre recorded set!

— Roger Sanchez (@djrogersanchez) May 14, 2016

…oh- and no champagne is likely 2 be sprayed from the booth, there will be a disappointing absence of “heart hands” & the only 1 who is

— Roger Sanchez (@djrogersanchez) May 14, 2016

..allowed a “Jesus Pose” is the Almighty One Himself. I just play the beats 2 make u dance. If u like that sort of thing. Sanchez Out
