The 'Copacabasa EP' is quirky and nostalgic, with an array of analogue synthesizers and an eye on the dancefloor
Simon Mills is an electronic music producer and DJ who rose to musical prominence in the noughties as one-half of wonky chillout duo Bent. He also records as Napoleon and has released numerous EP's including the Moogie Wonderland EP on Secret Life last year. This, though, is the first of two EPs that will be followed up with a full-length album in the autumn.
The lead track Copacabasa kicks things off with its pulsing synth-bass, twisting top lines and shuffling beats combined with swirling pads. Next up is Hot Silk, a slice of layered, Italo-inspired disco with hypnotic melodies and chugging beats. Blockade Runner takes things a touch darker with its spacey bassline, wonky synth lines and chords and then finally Dollybird is a perfect slice of Balearica that has more than just a nod to Simon's output with Bent.
I've been caning this EP for a couple of weeks now and must say it just oozes with class.
