Essex boy Skuff serves up a pleasingly varied six-tracker
A six-track EP from Rebel Music here in which Essex-based producer Skuff demonstrates a deft way with deeper styles of drum & bass..
The EP opens with Pushing Buttons itself, a gentle, all-instrumental liquid roller with some gorgeously haunting piano notes and just enough darkness to stop things getting sickly. Walk Away, which follows, sports quite a poppy male vocal, which will be off-putting for some, but is otherwise another lovable lil' liquid-y affair, in direct contrast to the next track, Freak, which takes us into darker, more minimal territory. Then it's the turn of stripped-down, rolling Iron Fist, leaving only the sunnier, more funk-fuelled Empty Pots and dreamy Too Far Away, the latter touting another male vocal, to play us out.
Blending light and dark, minimal and liquid styles to great effect, this one's well worth checking for yourself.
