To say the parties thrown by Sven
Väth's Cocoon label in Ibiza are an institution would be an
understatement - they've been a fixture on the White Island's
summer clubbing timetable since the days when we were all worried
about the Millennium Bug. And almost as much of an institution, these
days, are the annual end-of-season compilations that they've been
releasing for most of the past decade.
So, here's this year's offering. Once
more it's split across two discs. On CD1, the mood's a little more
groovy and eclectic, with house cuts from Aaaron (Whatcha Say) and
Inner City (the classic Carl Craig remix of Till We Meet Again)
rubbing shoulders with low-slung tech-house workouts from Patrick
Specke & Daze Maxim (Battery) and Matthew Dekay (Fantango) and
melodic, Detroit-inspired techno jams a-plenty.
"It's the techno party that's as fun
as it is freaky!" screams the press release for this one. We'd say
that's as fair a summary as any...
