The album is a collaboration with Dylan Carson of drone legends Earth
The next album from The Bug, AKA Kevin Martin, will be out next month on Ninja Tunes. Entitled Concrete Desert, the album's actually credited to The Bug Vs Earth, because it's a joint venture between Martin and Dylan Carson of legendary US drone metal outfit Earth.
The project began when Carlson collaborated on a couple of tracks on Martin's 2014 album Angels & Devils. Though the recordings weren't actually included on the final album, this meeting of two of music's great experimental minds led to live shows as part of Ninja Tune's 25th anniversary celebrations in LA, whereupon the pair promptly headed into the studio to record Concrete Desert. Also appearing on the album is Justin Broadrick, of grindcore/industrial heroes Napalm Death and Godflesh.
You can hear the first track from the album to be made public, Snakes Vs Rats, below. It's fairly uncompromising stuff - sort of like what you'd get if the classic early 70s Black Sabbath line-up tried their hand at dubstep - and certainly won't be for everyone. But if it does float your boat, then the album's out digitally on 24 March, with a physical release to follow on 5 May.
Before that, The Bug Vs Earth will play Heaven, London on 12 April, Belgrave Music Hall, Leeds on 13 April and Far Out Festival, Manchester on 14 April.
