Album #4 features appearances by Childish Gambino, Steve Arrington and more
Thundercat has announced details of his fourth studio album. Entitled It Is What It Is, the album features several high-profile guests and will be out on Brainfeeder on 3 April.
It Is What It Is has been produced by Flying Lotus and Thundercat, and features musical contributions from Ty Dolla $ign, Childish Gambino, Lil B, Kamasi Washington, Steve Lacy, BADBADNOTGOOD, Louis Cole, Zack Fox and, perhaps most intriguingly, Steve Arrington, the 80s soul legend best known (at least prior to a latterday comeback working with the likes of Stones Throw and Tummy Touch) for his work with the band Slave and his 1985 solo smash Feel So Real. Arrington and Lacy guest on the album's lead single Black Quails, which is out now and which you can hear below.
Announcing the album's release, Thundercat (real name Stephen Bruner) said: "This album is about love, loss, life, and the ups-and-downs tha come with that. It's a bit tongue-in-cheek, but at different points in life you come across places that you don't necessarily understand. Some things just aren't meant to be understood."
