Latest installment features tracks from F.eht, Aura Dub, Andrea Colina and many more
Since 2012, Aney F's Lubljana-based
Innocent Music stable has been flying the flag for minimal and dub
techno in Slovenia, and this compilation rounds up some of the best
of the label's recent output.
While one or two of the names involved
- those mentioned above, basically - should be familiar to those who
follow this scene closely, this is by-and-large a 'strictly
underground' affair, with the bulk of the tracks coming from
producers you've probably never heard of. Don't let that put you off,
though - Innocent Music haven't built the reputation they've now
got without knowing a thing or two about uncovering new talent!
Matt Time's A Tale kicks off
proceedings with its crunchy, fractured beats, dubbed-out bassline,
intricate FX and layers of white noise, and in doing so pretty much
sets the tone for the rest of the album. From there on in,
barely-there snatches of whispered vocal and muted but pounding 4/4s
abound, until Crowd Controlol (yes, Controlol!) play us out with the
slightly more tech-housey skank of Dub For Thought.
Admittedly, there's not a lot of
musical variety on offer. But if dub techno and minimal are your bag,
you'll find plenty to enjoy here.
