The EP features contributions from Ken Ishii, Mr Motte & Eric Sneo and Tom Wax
Rave The Planet is a non-profit organisation dedicated to bringing the Love Parade back to Berlin, while also aiming to achieve the protection of electronic music culture as an UNESCO recognised Heritage. This release marks the first in a series of mini compilations, featuring stellar names from around the globe.
Japanese techno legend Ken Ishii kicks things off in the manner synonymous with his sound, presenting Upkic, an energetic driving techno number full of relentless hats and snares over a hypnotic 303 acid line, building to a screeching synth that leads the track into a wonderfully intense crescendo. The next track comes courtesy of Dr Motte, the instigator of the original Love Parade and mastermind behind Rave The Planet. He teams up with Eric Sneo to bring us Idiocrazy, another slice of relentless techno, this time with a more uplifting feel as the pair opt for a rhythmic off-beat synth and vocal hits to sit over the rolling percussion and bass. And then lastly we have Tom Wax of Harthouse and Bush Recordings fame, whose We Are Here is a melodic take on the overall sound of the EP, with subtle high-end synths following a powerful lower midrange pattern, which in tandem push the track along with real purpose and power.
Overall, this EP oozes with quality, and although all tracks sit firmly in the driving techno camp, there’s a noticeable difference in the vibe across them all and so plenty to get your teeth into. Fans of Ken Ishii certainly won’t be disappointed, and if you like the sounds of Alan Fitzpatrick, Chris Liebing, Christian Smith and the like, this is definitely worth a listen for you too.
