2 Bit Thugs

Tracks come from Parsec, L&F Projekt, Josh Haiez, Andy Clockwork

Amongst Others is a new techier sub-label of Carlo Gambino's deep house imprint Midnight Social Recordings, and for what is only their fifth release they've opted to present a four-track V/A ep showcasing some new or up-and-coming talents.

First up is Andy Clockwork, who brings us Framework, a fairly sparse, eyes-down kinda cut underpinned by some seriously hefty bass and topped with snatches of Celeda's classic "music is the answer" vocal. Decisions by Josh Haiez, which follows, is a somewhat pacier number that centres around a dub-like bassline atop which busy percussion and synth sweeps do their thing. L&F Projekt's Elements takes us into techier pastures, with a swung rhythm and chopped-up vocal fragments giving it something of a tribal feel while a hummed female vocal part brings the musicality. And then finally there's Parsec's Sol, which starts out all bleepy and glitchy but settles down into a smoother ride before another famous vocal arrives (in this case, "Everybody loves the sunshine").

It's all good, as they say, but Framework is the standout for yours truly.
