Indianpolis's Dave Owen returns to the London stable with two fine liquid cuts

US D&B producer Dave Owen returns to Soul Trader here with a two-track EP that'll delight lovers of deep, soulful D&B vibes.

Pensive itself is up first, and is an fragile concoction of light but firin' breakbeats, an organic-souding bassline, haunting keys and snatches of male soulfful vocal. Closer to the "coffee table" D&B sound of the mid-90s than anything else, this is the very opposite end of the D&B spectrum from techstep and neuro, and as such is likely to find fans well beyond the usual D&B constitutuency. The accompanying If U Still Care is another smooth, soulful liquid roller, again sprinkled with some fine work on the ivories as well as two vocals this time: one male, one female.

This is a high-quality EP that should please lovers of deep, mellow electronic grooves generally, not just drum & bass heads… so take the late George Michael's advice, and listen without prejudice!
