Everyone's favourite Texan house producer comes to Mik Santoro and Kev Obrien's label
Here we have what is only the 14th release from Mik Santoro and Kev Obrien's Eyeyllic Music label, and the label debut of house veteran Demarkus Lewis.
Three rubs of About U make up the EP. In its Original form, it's an unhurried deep house groover centred around warped-sounding keys (very Madhouse) and trumpet parps, atop which a male voice (presumably Mr Lewis himself) speaks of his love for his Significant Other: "I swear, I'm usually not a love poet, but if was to wake up tomorrow morning and decide that I was gonna write about love, my first poem would be about you."
The remixes come from label boss Santoro and South Africa's Erefan Pearce. The former takes us into deep, late-night territory, with twitchy percussion, pads and the vocal cut-up and looping throughout, while Pearce smoothes things out for a more soulful ride.
All three passes are very playable but if pushed, Santoro's mix takes the gold for me.
