Their collab 'When You Gonna?' is out today. Happy birthday guys!
London-based house label Get Twisted Records have reached their 100th release, and they're marking the landmark in style, as label bosses Tough Love team up with no less than NYC house originator Todd Terry himself on When You Gonna?, which is out today.
Describing their sound - accurately enough, we'd say! - as "bass-infused house with plenty of ‘90s influences and hard-hitting grooves," Tough Love have racked up numerous accolades in the past few years, winning Best Single at the 2015 Bass Music Awards, hitting the UK Top 40 twice with So Freakin' Tight and Pony (Jump On It), and working with big names like Roger Sanchez, Boy George... and now Todd the God! And that's before we even mention the success of their Get Twisted label which, founded in 2012, has gone on to put out music from the likes of Sandy Riviera, Amine Edge & DANCE, Hannah Wants, Purple Disco Machine and Man Without A Clue.
As for Todd himself - well, we're not even gonna waste your time or ours in explaining who Todd Terry is! Suffice to say that, a fixture on the New York house scene since the very earliest days, he didn't get his nickname for nothing...
Their first collaborative venture is, as you'll hear below, a chunky, bassy and tech-tinged houser with a looping, droning "When you gonna play house music?" vocal that's answered by a defiant, "Oh no no... this is house music!" Expect to hear this out plenty over the next few months... and in the meantime, a hearty iDJ congratulations to Tough Love and the Get Twisted on batting their (first) century.
