The We Dance As One event will be streamed live on YouTube, Facebook and Twitch
Glitterbox are to host a virtual Christmas party on Friday 18 December, with eight hours of live DJ sets streamed from locations in London, Miami and beyond. The event forms part of Defected's We Dance As One series of livestreamed parties, which have been running since October.
The music for this festive special will come from a list of house and disco big-hitters that includes Todd Terry, Dave Lee, Louie Vega, Jellybean Benitez, Horse Meat Disco, DJ Paulette, Melvo Baptiste and Teni Tinks, and naturally you can expect Glitterbox's usual extravagant production values, including their famously, fabulously flamboyant crew of dancers.
Helping put all of this together are a team of 25 videographers, sound recordists and other technical and creative types from all around the world. As Mattie Evans of event logistics specialists NTRP, who have worked on We Dance As One, puts it: “A lot of the people we work with – venues, crews, production teams – have been out of work during the pandemic. So it's been great to run the streams, it gives us a chance to employ many people who haven't had any work since March.”
And like previous We Dance As One events, the party will also be raising money for a good cause. Where the first party raised funds for MIND and November's was in support of The Trussell Trust, this one's a benefit for the Keith Haring Foundation, which raises money to help people affected by HIV and AIDS.
We Dance As One is supported by the Night-Time Industries Association and the Association for Electronic Music.
