SampleTank for iOS users now have access to nearly 2,000 different instruments
IK Multimedia has announced version two of SampleTank for iOS, the iPad/iPhone version of its popular sample-based software instrument.
The iOS version now features over 140 individual instruments, broken down into 16 categories (pianos, synth leads, drums etc). Users can then purchase extra instruments for SampleTank separately, with over 1,900 now available, including Pro Instrument bundles containing up to 500 instruments each. Recent additions to the available range include Alan Parsons Grand Piano, Future Synths and Elektronik: Deep House.
Beyond raw sounds, other new features of SampleTank for iOS 2 include a redesigned instrument browser, new Live, Pad and Song Mode interfaces and a new MIDI Learn function, which enables you to control SampleTank using your existing MIDI controller if you want to. Naturally, the software is pre-optimised for use with IK's own range of MIDI controllers such as iRig Keys and iRig Pads. The app supports Inter-App Audio so you can import/export sounds from/to the likes of GarageBand.
The app is available via the Apple App Store now. There's a free version with 20 instruments if you want to try before you buy, while the standard 140-instrument edition costs just $19.99. Additional sound libraries and instruments can then be added as in-app purchases, starting at $5.99.
