With his new album 'June' just around the corner, LA-based Maymind very kindly does us a mix
In our Making Waves series we give rising stars of the scene a chance to shine by showing us what they do best. Today it's the turn of Maymind, a Latvian-born, US-raised producer whose new album June is about to drop, and who’s put together an hour of deep house, Balearica, brassy funk and more to celebrate…
AKA: Leo Maymind is my real name
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Describe the music you make in 20 words or less: Sonic worlds of seductive, melancholic bliss, hypnotic grooves peppered with jazzy, moody, funky improvisations
Five key influences: Kurt Vonnegut, Leonard Cohen, Bjørk, Bright Eyes, Carl Craig
What one artist/producer would you most like to work with, and why? Jamila Woods. Her last album, Legacy, has been on repeat at my house ever since it came out. I love everything about her artistry and what she is saying.
If people check out just ONE of your tracks, what should it be? Find You, the first single from my upcoming album June, is a pretty good starting point, as it features all the things I love mashed into a single track.
What else do iDJ readers need to know? June comes out on 5 November and I'll be playing a bevy of live shows to support it. Can't wait to show people what I have coming up next, as my next album is already totally finished as well!
Maymind’s third album June is out on 5 November; the single Four Portals is out now
