2 Bit Thugs

There's only the one mix, but Danny Slade spots an anthem-in-waiting…

This track is another collaboration between British DJ/producer Marc Vedo (a former contributor to this very magazine, as some of you will recall) and Australian soul diva Kylie Auldist. It comes on Tough Love’s label Get Twisted and, like its predecessor Ride Of Your Life, it looks like its going to be a big one.

It kicks off with a drum beat, conga loop and freaky backing sounds, then builds with a low-slung funky bass sound to a snare roll and the introduction of Kylie’s vocals, which are sultry and soulful and sung in a restrained way, creating a great atmosphere for the track. As the track progresses, the vocal blossoms into a full song with verse and chorus, which is a refreshing change from all the cut and paste-type vocals that are so popular right now. It's all quite simple and self-controlled but that is its beauty, as the quality of the vocal and the funky, percussive tribal backing give it great focus and make this a track with real staying power.

I suspect this one is going to stick around for a long while. There's only the one mix, but that's all that you need as this is such a solid track. I suspect this is destined for great things so my advice is jump on it before everyone else does!
