The full EP's out on Black Riot Records on Friday, complete with Yam Who? and Alinka remixes
Our first exclusive track premiere this week comes from Norwegian duo De Fanstastiske To. Saharaball is the title track from their EP of the same name, which is out this Friday (6 July) on UK label Black Riot Records.
De Fantastiske To are Ravi Brunsvik and Marius Sommerfeldt. Both avid record collectors and veteran DJs and producers on the Norwegian scene, their work has previously appeared on labels including Paper, Trunkfunk, Beatservice and Omena, as well as both Black Riot and its parent label Midnight Riot Records.
Their latest EP is a pleasingly varied affair. The EP opens with the laidback Lettbeint, a disco-infused affair with a low-slung, groovy b-line and some killer organ work. Yam Who?'s remix dispenses with the latter, bringing the bassline to the fore and adding some fine Rhodes of his own, while Alinka's remix of Hardtslående is a more overtly house-y cut with a female vocal and and a frantic acid bassline. And then we come to Saharaball itself, which starts out sounding all airy and Balearic, then drops down into a tripped-out bassy groove, or as Ravi and Marius themselves call it, "a sleazy, bottom-heavy basement club burner".
