It's an all-Midlands affair as Birmingham's Mark Spence gives Leamington lad Tom Junior a rave-y makeover
Today's exclusive track premiere comes to you courtesy of Midlands-based Groove Soul Records, as iDJ brings you a first chance to hear the new Marc Spence Remix of Keep Wondering by label boss Tom Junior, which is out tomorrow.
Based in Leamington Spa, Groove Soul Records is a relatively new arrival on the scene, having launched less than a year ago (July 2020 to be precise). Describing their remit as “funky, jackin', soulful and disco house”, they've already racked up 40 single-track releases, coming mostly from Tom himself plus a host of other up-and-coming names – though they have put out cuts from Vasily Umanets and Sulene Fleming.
Released a couple of weeks ago, Tom's original version of Keep Wondering was a lively, summery disco-houser, but now it gets handed over to Birmingham-based producer Mark Spence [pictured] for a remix. Spence operates in slightly tuffer, bassier house pastures – his tracks have appeared on the likes of Dirtybird, Cheap Thrills, Simma Black and This Ain't Bristol, as well as his own Box Of Cats label – and in his hands, Keep Wondering becomes a slice of pure rave nostalgia.
Tom says: “Having test-driven this remix in my own sets, it’s an absolute gem! Marc’s productions are always original and cut through the noise, and this remix is no different.”
Don't take Tom's word for it, though – see what you think…
