'Live Stories' is out on Darren Emerson's Detone label on Friday (27 July)
Our first great track premiere this week comes from live techno legend Saytek. Transposition (live) is taken from his new album Live Stories, which will be released by Detone this Friday.
Saytek, AKA Joseph Keevil, has been doing his live techno thing for well over a decade now, releasing half a dozen long-players and building up a cult following before 2016's Machine Jams on Cubism really pushed him into the upper echelons of the global techno community. That album was followed in 2017 by Live Jams on Freakin303 and Live Jams Vol 2 on Darren Emerson's Detone imprint, to whom he returns now with Live Stories.
As ever, everything you'll hear on Live Stories was jammed out live in the studio: as Saytek himsef puts it, it was "created in the moment and captures the vibe of my recent tour dates. It's about creating music on machines as individual patterns and loops and arranging them live, as well as creating new elements on the fly." And as ever it's a stylistically varied affair, with tracks ranging from the scorching, squelching acid of Fire Chord to the aptly-named Sparse, a no-nonsense pounder built for big, dark rooms at 3am. But the track we've chosen to premiere today is Transposition, which like a lot of Saytek's best material sits right on the house/techno cusp, and as such will work well on floors of either persuasion.
We're told that Steve Lawler's already been hammering this one, but more importantly - see what you think!
