2 Bit Thugs

Spanish producer David Penn is in the remixer's chair this time

Classic return to 2018's gospel-flavoured smash, calling on Spanish veteran David Penn to supply a remix, after Floorplan and Danny Krivit had their goes.

As Calling Out is such a well-known tune already, we'll just concentrate on how Penn's take on the track varies from those that have gone before. It's not as organic-sounding as Lloyd's original, the 4/4s aren't as tuff and driving as those on the Floorplan rubs, and where Krivit's edit brought the pianos to the fore, Penn's remix uses them only sparingly. It's also got a much beefier (and more now-sounding) bassline.

But the track's greatest strengths - soul trio Dames Brown's full-lunged vocals, and its uplifting vibe generally - remain untouched. So while you might be disappointed if you were hoping for a radical reinvention, if you're just looking for a good old-fashioned singalong anthem, here's one that's just been given a new lease of life.
