The final installment finds the bossman himself getting the remix treatment
As you're doubtless aware by now, this year has seen Poker Flat Recordings celebrating their 20th anniversary by releasing a series of remix EPs – some focusing on a particular track, some on tracks by a particular artist and three that showcased the winning entries in a remix contest that was open to all and sundry. And now, after 12 previous volumes, the series comes to a close with four different artists taking on four different tracks by Mr Poker Flat himself, Steve Bug.
Up first is Mihai Popoviciu, giving us his take on 2001's A Night Like This. The original was a bumpy, glitchy minimal cut that came with a deeper remix from Richie Hawtin, but in Popoviciu's hands it's given a rolling tech-house makover that really brings out the track's hypnotic, dubby qualities. Loverboy, which follows, has already been given several remixes; the Sven Tasnadi rub on offer here is an eyes-down, small-hours pass. We then get not one but two takes on FR 101.2 courtesy of Lele Sacchi: his Remix is a minimal/deep tech throbber while his Dub Beat Remix pretty much does what it says on the tin. Finally, the EP's completed by The Midnight Perverts' remix of You Make Me Feel, which closes out the EP on a slightly tuffer, chunkier note.
All told, this EP provides an excellent conclusion to the series, and is (yet another!) one that fans of the label won't want to miss.
