This beat isn't Technotronic: rave legend Eric Martin pumps up the soulful, jazzy house jams

Normally our Making Waves slot is for newcomers, but today we're flipping the script! There's nothing new about Eric Martin at all: he rose to fame decades ago as Technotronic's Me One AKA MC Eric. Since those heady late 80s days he's forged a lifelong career as a producer and songwriter, working with everyone from The Roots and Shaun Escoffery to Jeff Beck and Maxi Priest. But we're pretty sure most of you will never have heard him flexing his DJ chops inna soulful, jazzy house style like this before…

Name: Eric Martin

AKA: Me One, MC Eric (Technotronic)

Describe the music you make in 20 words or less: Classic house, classic hip-hop, hip-house, honest and traditional

Five key influences: Kraftwerk, Mantronix, Nick Drake, Bob Marley, Rick Rubin

What one artist/producer would you most like to work with, and why? Shaun Escoffery, because his voice is one of the most perfect to work with and one of the most sought-after in soulful house

If people check out just ONE of your tracks, what should it be? Me One – Frenemy, produced by The Roots (Island, 1999)

What else do iDJ readers need to know? I was a founding member of Technotronic (Pump Up The Jam etc). 33 years in the game!
