Lapus Music bosses Supernova take some time out to release on 8bit Records
Italian duo Emiliano 'Emijay' Nencioni and Giacomo 'G.O.D.I' Godi, AKA Supernova, normally put their music out on their own excellent Lapsus Music label. This three-track tech-house monster, however, comes instead on Nick Curly and Gorge's long-running and influential 8Bit Records.
Up first is The Wild Weekend, which sets the pace for the whole release with its breakbeat intro, clattering percussion and uber-funky bassline. It's a real floorfiller, with bell sounds and a catchy synth riff along with original-sounding vocal samples. Next comes the less in-your-face Detuned, which starts with an offbeat intro that runs throughout the track with added snares, space-age synths and electro drum patterns which have a distinctly retro feel. Finally you have another floorfiller in the form of Shuffle Tim, which again is a smorgasbord of electro delights, all served up in a grooving fashion with chants and disco stabs of sound that really give it an edge.
All in all, this EP is musically honed down to a fine point - and that point is to make you lose it on the dancefloor. All three tracks pack a punch and manage to find a new angle on a tried and tested formula. It's tech-house done right!
