The mysterious Tobias is the man at the controls
Sense Traxx has been building itself a solid reputation since its inception in 2016, with a consistent stream of impeccably honed underground techno and house releases. That reputation will be furthered with this latest offering. It's a three-track EP, with a remix of the title track and another track that's aptly titled The Funk.
The original of Fiya Bun has a simple, snare-led intro and builds with layers of ethnic percussion and female ragga-style chants that are cut-up and sampled throughout to good effect over a simple booming bassline. The remix is by Glen Coombs, who strips it back and rebuilds with booming drums, synth stabs, lead lines and tizzy percussion, which along with the vocal make for an altogether different, less tribal cut that almost verges on progressive. The last track, The Funk, starts with swung percussion and a sample of crowds talking. Then, with the addition of an electro bassline and vocal samples asking "who’s got the funk?", what you get is a true funk nugget that keeps with the ethnic theme but takes it in a slightly different direction.
Any one of these tracks could happily take the lead on this release, as all three will definitely get your crowds moving and grooving. For me The Funk is the strongest but my advice is check out all three - they all will do some serious dancefloor damage!
