Going out clubbing this weekend? Here are 10 things you should be talking about on the smoking terrace...
1.
Daft Punk fan site DaftBootlegs has unearthed a stack of photos from
Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo's first live tour in
1995. No silly helmets in those days, but LOTS of curly hair! See the
snaps for yourself at daftbootlegs.weebly.com/photos.html
2.
Beatport owner SFX Entertainment, which also owns the Tomorrowland
and Electric Zoo brands, has filed for bankruptcy. However, Beatport
users - and labels - are assured that it's "business as usual" during the "reorganisation".
2.
Sasha has recorded a new 21-track album called Scene Delete
with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. Out in April, the album was
supposed to be a Late Night Tales mix, but it seems they
started making some exclusive tracks for it and got a bit carried
away...
3.
Bristol's techno 'mystery man' A Sagittariun (we say 'mystery man'
because in Bristol at least, his true identity is the world's worst-kept secret) will release his second album Elasticity
on 23 April, via his own Elastic Dreams label.
4.
Major label BMG has bought a large share in Andy C's Ram Records. The
deal, says BMG, is "designed to help the legendary D&B label
grow in the UK and internationally while staying true to its
independent roots".
5.
Oliver Heldens, Eric Prydz, Martin Garrix, Paul Van Dyk, Noisia,
Caspa and Duke Dumont have been added to the bill for Electric Daisy
Carnival UK, joining previously announced headliners Avicii and
Axwell & Ingrosso at Milton Keynes Bowl on 9 July.
6.
French disco veteran Cerrone, Fela Kuti's drummer Tony Allen and
saxophonist Manu Dibango have teamed up on the Afrobeat-flavoured, er, Afro EP. Lead track Funk Makossa comes complete with a Todd Edwards
remix when the EP drops next Friday.
7. Long-running UK house label 2020Vision Recordings has a brand new offshoot. 2020 Editions made its
debut this week with the synth-heavy Represent EP from
Romanian duo NTFO, who've previously had releases on Diynamic and
Gruuv.
8.
The line-up's been announced for the SunceBeat festival, which is
staged by the team behind the much-missed Southport Weekender. Those
travelling to Croatia can check out Jazzy Jeff, Black Coffee, Louie
Vega, Derrick Carter, Joey Negro, Detroit Swindle, Henrik Schwarz,
Terry Hunter, Black Madonna and many more.
9.
Forthcoming Ben Stiller comedy Zoolander 2, which is out on 12
February, will feature cameo appearances by Skrillex and A$AP Rocky.
Meanwhile, OWLSA fave Mija has been posing for a Playboy shoot...
albeit that no longer involves taking one's clothes off. Well, not
all of them anyway.
10.
News just in: the line-up for this year's Boomtown Fair is looking a
bit special, with Leftfield, Fat Freddy's Drop, Calibre, Roni Size &
DJ Krust, Nightmares On Wax, Congo Natty and Chris Liberator just some
of the big names on offer. Full details over the weekend.
